Our strategy
Leading healthcare together
HUS is the largest provider of specialized healthcare in Finland.
Together with the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Helsinki and other universities and educational institutions in the region, we are by far the largest scientific actor and educator of healthcare personnel.
Together with all HUS employees, our owners, and other collaborators we can solve the challenges in healthcare and social welfare and offer leading healthcare to our clients.

As Finland’s leading university hospital, it is not good enough for us to be good; we want to be the best, the pioneers of medical care. That’s why we want to improve every single day. We are making our promise to each of our patients and customers. The promise encourages us to learn new things and go to work – every day, every shift.
Our strategic focal points
Our strategic focal points guide implementing our strategy. The annually monitored goals and indicators are also derived from the focal points.
We have set five strategic focal points for the period 2023–2027:
We are known and recognized throughout the country for providing the best customer experience. We put customer experience at the heart of all our operations and development. The customer experience is created equitably through caring interaction. It starts at home and continues back home.
We work responsibly with our patients and staff to improve the customer experience. We are developing customer experience management methods and streamlining service processes. We recognize that our client base is multicultural.
We improve workplace wellbeing for our employees by developing management, leadership, and rewards. Our personnel planning is continuous and long-term. Each employee should feel heard and seen.
Our human resource management treats everyone in an equal, transparent, and fair manner, regardless of the organisational unit in which the employees work. Decisions are based on policies and guidelines are in line with the strategy.
Our employees are our most important asset. A thriving workforce enables us to deliver the best and high-quality customer experience.
We will continue to integrate and intensify cooperation with Uusimaa and the Southern Finland collaborative area in specialised healthcare, primary healthcare and social work. We produce regionally equal services.
Together we will improve services to make them even more client-oriented.
We are a proud member of the university, research, and education communities. High-quality education and research and the integration of results into our daily work will improve.
We act in a sustainable way, increase digitalisation responsibly and strive to be at the forefront of innovative patient care solutions. We support the development of the entire service system in Uusimaa and the Southern Finland collaborative area. We will integrate specialized healthcare in the Southern Finland collaborative area into one seamless whole.
We will ensure equality of services through continuous improvement. We will create common models for operations and division of labor between Helsinki, the wellbeing services counties of Uusimaa, and the Southern Finland collaborative area.
Equality means taking the financial capacity into account. Fiscal responsibility means predictability. Financial planning is based on agreed goals.

At HUS, everyone gets comparable treatment based on medical needs. We treat our personnel and stakeholders equally and ensure equal availability of services regionally and linguistically.

We bear our share of the responsibility for the functioning and capacity of entire Finland’s health care system.

Our goal is to provide both the personnel and customers with modern, safe and functional facilities that meet the operational requirements.
