Our Rehabilitation Clinic at the Neurology Outpatient Clinic in Paciuksenkatu, Helsinki, is an outpatient clinic where adult patients (16 years of age and older) with sudden brain damage are referred for rehabilitation. Our clinic is available by appointment only. In the outpatient clinic, we mainly rehabilitate people with cerebrovascular disorders or brain injuries who fell ill or had an accident less than a year ago and whose functional capacity is sufficient for outpatient rehabilitation.

Other diseases leading to a need for rehabilitation may include encephalitis, a brain tumor, hypoxic-ischemic brain damage (due to lack of oxygen), or post-operative sequelae of brain surgery.

In our outpatient clinic it is possible to receive medical rehabilitation that requires multi-professional expertise. We offer neuropsychological rehabilitation, physiotherapy, speech therapy, and occupational therapy. Regular services include the possibility to make an appointment with a social worker, rehabilitation nurse, and a physician. The services of a rehabilitation instructor are also available at the outpatient clinic.

Persons undergoing rehabilitation arrive for their rehabilitation visits from home independently or with the support of an assistant by taxi, public transportation, or by car.

The rehabilitation period requires that your treating unit provides you with a referral which justifies the need for rehabilitation and recommends the necessary forms of rehabilitation. The referral should be based on assessments of the need for rehabilitation made by specialists (physiotherapist, occupational therapist, speech therapist, neuropsychologist). Referrals are discussed at a rehabilitation meeting where they are accepted or directed elsewhere. At the same time, the forms of therapy required by the person undergoing rehabilitation are established and a decision is made on the initiation of a rehabilitation period.

Rehabilitation periods are multi-professional (at least two different forms of therapy). The exception is neuropsychological rehabilitation, which can be the only form of rehabilitation required by the person in need of rehabilitation.
