Hospital cleaning service worker Yasmin enjoys her active work at HUS
Keywords:HUS has a wide range of tasks, regardless of age. A good example of this is Yasmin Konate, who appreciates being active and started working in hospital cleaning services at the age of just 17 and has now enjoyed working at HUS for four years.
Yasmin especially appreciates the energy provided by the work and the interesting opportunities that have come up through work; there aren’t many jobs outside of nursing that allow you to follow a surgical procedure from start to finish, for example.
“Office work has never been an option for me: I’m a person who likes to be on the move. Fast-paced is perhaps the word that best describes my work. The days include a lot of walking and movement – incidental exercise is really included in this work. I easily complete 12,000 steps a day and I have noticed that my energy levels have increased thanks to the brisk pace of work. If my legs are numb at the end of the day, I have succeeded and given it my all!
I started at HUS at the age of just 17 in hospital cleaning tasks, where I have now enjoyed working for four years. Education in the field was not a requirement when I started, but I have been able to complete the required training during my work. The necessary flexibility has been ensured, for both sides! At the moment I work in the surgical ward where we clean and sanitize the operating rooms and the various machines found in the rooms and used during surgery. HUS does really interesting things, and the equipment available is quite extensive. I need to really pay attention in my work, as the level of cleanliness in the operating room must be very high.
I appreciate my team and the opportunities offered by the different wards. We have an active and lively team with whom you feel like you never need to be alone. The work environment itself is also interesting: for example, I once witnessed a finger amputation. This made my work more meaningful when I saw the significance of my own work for the patient.”
