Emergency Outpatient Clinic for Eye Diseases, Eye and Ear Hospital

• On weekdays from Monday to Friday, it is recommend that you arrive at the emergency clinic between 8:00 a.m. and 12:00 noon. After 3:00 p.m., our emergency services operate with reduced staff.
• Please arrive at the emergency clinic by public transport or have someone drive you over in a car. After the examinations and treatment procedures, it is very likely that you cannot drive yourself. Eye examinations may require the administering of dilating eye drops that blur your vision. 
• If you wear contact lenses, please also bring your glasses.
• Take an updated list of all your medication as well as your regular medication with you. Waiting times can sometimes be long.
• At the emergency department, we do not renew any prescriptions. For prescription renewals, please contact your treatment unit during office hours.
• Waiting times can sometimes be long, so it may be good to bring along a water bottle and a snack, for example. There are a few cafés and shops in the area, but they are not always open.
   

• If you have eye or vision symptoms, seek medical attention primarily in the area where you live, at a health center, health center emergency department, or, if you prefer, a private physician. If necessary, the examining physician will refer you to further treatment in accordance with the instructions of the HUS on-call ophthalmologist.

You can get treatment for most eye problems at the local health center 

• Conjunctivitis with discharge
• Allergic eye symptoms
• Inflammation of the eyelid (such as a stye)
• Corneal abrasion (erosion)
• Removal of foreign body (debris) from the surface of the eye
• Basic diagnosis and treatment of dry eye syndrome 
• Subconjunctival hemorrhage (sugillation) – does not usually require treatment
