Endoscopy Unit, Gastroenterology Outpatient Clinic, Meilahti Tower Hospital
Keywords:At the Endoscopy Unit, we conduct various gastrointestinal and bronchial endoscopy examinations.
The most common examinations conducted in our unit are gastroscopies and colonoscopies as well as bronchoscopies for diagnosing lung diseases. During the endoscopies, we can take biopsies and perform various procedures, such as excisions of small tumors.
We perform the examinations using a flexible endoscope – a narrow tube with channels for various items of medical equipment and a digital camera at the end.
We can also use the endoscopes for imaging of the bile ducts and procedures to remove calculi from the bile and pancreatic ducts without surgery. With ultrasound endoscopy, we can reveal changes that are difficult to detect using other scanning techniques, and take biopsies through the gastrointestinal tract or bronchial tubes, in areas where biopsies are otherwise difficult to obtain.
At the Gastroenterology Outpatient Clinic, we treat hepatic and gastrointestinal diseases. The most important patient groups include patients with inflammatory bowel diseases, autoimmune diseases of the liver (PBC, PSC and autoimmune hepatitis), or viral hepatitis.
Treatment at the Endoscopy Unit and Gastroenterology Outpatient Clinic requires a referral.
