5B Renal and pancreatic transplants, nephrology, Meilahti Triangle Hospital
The treatment of renal and pancreatic transplant patients and patients undergoing renal transplants from family members have been nationally centralized on Ward 5B. In addition, we treat rejection reactions in renal and pancreatic transplant patients as well as other possible complications.
We also treat nephrological patients and conduct examinations if a patient is suspected of having a renal disease. We will treat you on our ward, if the condition with your illness should become acute in some way and require inpatient ward care. Our ward is utilized when taking kidney biopsies, implanting peritoneal and hemodialysis catheters and fistulas, initiating dialysis, i.e. artificial renal dialysis, and treating patients with peritonitis.
Patients arrive on our ward on the basis of a treatment referral or through another department, most often through an emergency clinic. As a rule, surgical patients arrive through the LEIKO unit. Our ward is open 24 hours a day.
Patients arriving on the ward for examinations can overnight at the patient hotel Scandic Meilahti.
Health care students interested in renal and pancreatic transplants and nephrology can perform internships on our ward.
