Surgical Ward, Leiko and Day Surgery Unit, Porvoo Hospital

Keywords:

At the Surgical Unit in Porvoo Hospital, we perform general surgery, gastrosurgical, orthopedic, urological, plastic surgery, and oral, nose and throat procedures.

On the day of the surgery, you will arrive directly from home to the Leiko Unit (into surgery from home) at the agreed time. Prior to an elective surgery, you have undergone the necessary preliminary examinations and received pre-operative instructions. Please read the preparation instructions carefully before the day of the procedure.

On the morning of the surgery, you will meet with the secretary at the reception of the Leiko Unit to check that your contact information is up to date. You will then be instructed through the surgical preparations and provided assistance if needed. In the morning of the surgery, you will also meet with the surgeon who will be performing your procedure.

A nurse from the Surgical Uni will pick you up and take you to the operating room. There you will be treated by a multidisciplinary surgical team. After the surgery, we will transfer you to the recovery room to recover. If the surgery is planned as an elective, ambulatory procedure and the discharge criteria are met, you may be discharged on the same day when accompanied by an escort. We ask that the person escorting you would pick you up at the agreed time.

If your surgery is planned as a Herko procedure (“discharge directly from the recovery room”), you will stay in the recovery room of the surgery unit and be discharged by 10 a.m. the following morning.

If your surgery requires extended hospitalization, we will treat you on the ward after your monitoring at the recovery room.

Please consider the following before arriving for your surgery

  • Only take the agreed upon medication at home in the morning of the surgery.
  • If you will be discharged directly from the recovery room, bring your own medication with you in their original packages.
  • Please take into account the instructions on not eating anything prior to the procedure.
  • Please also consider the no-smoking instruction prior to surgery.
  • Leave all your valuable items, jewelry, watches, large sums of money, and other valuables at home.
