Occupational therapy
Keywords:We offer occupational therapy services on an as-needed basis in Uusimaa to specialist medical care patients and rehabilitees on hospital wards and at outpatient clinics in almost all specialist fields.
Our goal is to promote your ability to cope and participate as independently as possible and with the highest possible quality in the activities relevant to you, despite the limitations of injury or illness.
The means of occupational therapy may include, for example, working on everyday skills, assessing your need for orthoses and assistive devices and their preparation, and planning home refurbishments. The planning of therapy depends on your age, life situation, interests and so on. Occupational therapy is provided either individually or in groups, and also in your everyday environment if necessary.
We begin occupational therapy by assessing your functional capacity and ability to work. We perform the assessment through interviews, observation of activities, and tests; and the results will be used as a basis for preparing a plan for occupational therapy and rehabilitation objectives together with you and, if appropriate, with your family members. If necessary, the occupational therapist of specialist medical care services will coordinate follow-up therapy and, in some cases, will also monitor rehabilitation.
Occupational therapy is based on occupational science. In occupational therapy, the focus is on cooperation between the occupational therapist and the patient and on the therapeutic use of activities. It is possible for a person to influence his or her well-being, health and future through his or her personal activities and choices. We work in cooperation with you and your family as well as other social and health care professionals and communities.
