The Infection Control Unit is responsible for providing infection control expertise at HUS and infection safety expertise for the staff. We also develop and plan infection control measures within HUS and its support services
The Infection Control Unit supports other units in preventing and monitoring healthcare-associated infections, antimicrobial resistant micro-organisms, and epidemics. Our work is based on the obligations laid out in the Communicable Diseases Act (1227/2016). With these responsibilities in mind, we plan and carry out staff training and develop infection control guidelines for the units.
The infection control guidelines can be found here (in Finnish).
We also carry out development and research work related to infection control. The goal of our operation is to reduce the incidence of healthcare-associated infections at HUS. The focus of infection control is preventative work related to patient safety.
Our main task is to provide expert infection control services to the patient care units and HUS staff. The experts in the Infection Control Unit are infectious diseases specialists and infection control nurses.
