Treatment of spinal cord injuries as multi-professional cooperation
Keywords:At HUS Spinal Cord Injury Center, we carry out the immediate rehabilitation after the acute phase treatment of patients with a spinal cord injury, and monitor the patients throughout their lifetime.
The Spinal Cord Injury Center comprises the Ward for Demanding Rehabilitation and the Spinal Cord Injury Outpatient Clinic. In the outpatient clinic, we also monitor patients who have a congenital spinal cord injury. In addition to the HUS region, we are also responsible for specific catchment areas (South Karelia, Kymenlaakso, and Päijät-Häme).
We treat spinal cord injuries as multi-professional cooperation with a physician, nurse, rehabilitation instructor, occupational therapist, physiotherapist and social worker. Our experts also work together with experts from other specialty fields. We also assess the patients' functional capacity, health, and social situation as well as survey their needs for assistive equipment.
