HUS year 2023: Responsibility
We, at HUS, are accountable for our actions above all to our patients but also to our employees and owners, and more broadly to society at large.
Responsibility is divided into social, economic and environmental responsibility. We wish to promote all aspects of responsibility in our operations.
Responsibility seminars and workshop
We held a responsibility seminar for personnel in spring 2023; the topics were:
- reducing single-use materials
- responsibility in medication safety
- sustainable procurement
- reducing chemical use in cleaning
- workforce diversity
- HUS productivity program
The ‘Responsibility Action 2023’ recognition was also announced at the responsibility seminar: food waste reduction (in Finnish).
We held another responsibility seminar for personnel in the autumn, focusing on environmental responsibility. The topics were:
- planetary health
- the HUS Climate Roadmap
- environmental responsibility in procurement
- the ‘Fewer Gloves’ campaign of the infection control unit
- environmental considerations in emptying out Töölö Hospital
- the health forest on Sairaalarinne at the Kainuu Central Hospital
We also invited employees interested in responsibility matters to a workshop in November to discuss how responsibility shows in their work and how it should be manifested across HUS.
Social responsibility
We want to be a workplace where everyone is welcome, regardless of background. Our goal is for every patient to be treated equally.
Environmental responsibility
We took forward the actions included in the HUS Climate Roadmap, continued our energy efficiency efforts and managed to reduce the volume of mixed waste, food waste and pharmaceutical waste generated.
Financial responsibility
We continued our productivity program, the goal of which is to cut operating costs without affecting the operations themselves.
