HUS year 2022: Investments
In 2022, our investments totaled EUR 276 million, of which construction investments accounted for EUR 196.5 million.
There were 20 major construction projects worth more than EUR 10 million being planned or executed.
Most of the major projects were on the Meilahti, Jorvi, Peijas, and Hyvinkää hospital campuses.
The largest construction projects on the Meilahti campus in terms of cost in 2022 were:
- Bridge Hospital (actual costs in 2022: EUR 40.9 million)
- Oak Hospital (EUR 33.2 million)
- Department of Oncology, phase 1 of the renovation of the low rise part (EUR 6.1 million)
Other major construction projects:
- Renovation of surgical ward K and areas beneath it at Jorvi Hospital (EUR 21.5 million)
- New ward building at Jorvi Hospital (EUR 17.3 million)
- Renovations of wards 3 and 4 and the façade of A block at Hyvinkää Hospital (EUR 15.2 million)
In addition to our own construction investments, we made a contribution to the planning of the new Joint Hospital on the Laakso Hospital campus with the City of Helsinki.
In September 2022, the HUS Executive Board made a note of our new long-term facilities plan. This plan governs construction investments, maintenance repairs and facilities use in the long term to ensure that adequate facilities are provided for our hospital operations.
We spent EUR 43.3 million on equipment investments
We spent EUR 43.3 million on investments in medical devices, which was EUR 2.7 million less than budgeted. The largest individual project here was furnishing and equipping the Bridge Hospital, while the remaining investments were largely replacements.
IT Management investments with the greatest cost impact included patient information system projects such as development of eHealth services and clinical analytics applications. The IT equipment investment for the Bridge Hospital was the largest construction-related IT investment. EUR 29.1 million had been budgeted for IT Management investments; the projects executed amounted to EUR 26.6 million.
